TEDxGreenville Engages Local High Schoolers with Art Challenge

TEDxGreenville is a TEDx event in Greenville, South Carolina.

They launched the "X Marks the Spot" challenge to highschoolers in their community, asking them to submit a piece of artwork around the theme of "Inspiring our Future", also the theme of TEDxGreenville 2011. The winner will receive two front row seats to TEDxGreenville 2011 and have their piece featured on TEDxGreenville website, social media pages, event brochures, press releases and more.

Said Aaron Von Frank, who runs marketing for TEDxGreenville,"We wanted to do a better job of engaging our youth this year and making sure they feel their voices are as much a part of this community as the "grown-ups." It's incredibly important that people feel that they can effect change or be the driver of their future (individually and collectively), and it seems that too many of our youth don't have that sense, and too few of our adults are helping to foster it."

Through the challenge, the team has met many high schoolers who now want to be a part of TEDxGreenville -- both as attendees and as organizing team members.

The winner -- a collaged image of George Washington -- was chosen for its "being innovative, understanding your past, standing on the shoulders of giants vibe", a core theme at the upcoming TEDxGreenville.
